So You Want To Be A CEO — Here Are 5 Things You Need To Know
“Great businesses are built by determined people”
- Be Resourceful And Be Prepared To Take Risks
Running a business inherently involves taking risks. You are projecting the future and making decisions that will affect your business positively or negatively. A small decision today, may need a lot of work and resources in future to rectify. But with limited resources at the beginning, it may be a wise choice to make that small decision now. Good luck.
2. Be Thick Skinned
During your journey as a CEO, you will have a lot of individuals say negative things about your business, and about you personally. You will also need to get used to rejections, as you pitch your business, sell your products or services, raise money, etc. You need to get used to handling rejection and negativity, while concurrently driving your business forward towards it’s goals.
3. Be Prepared To Work Hard
As CEO of a start-up, you will work extremely long hours and make a lot of personal sacrifices. It is not a 9 to 5 job. You need to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Running a start-up is notoriously difficult and requires a lot of energy and time.
4. Be Prepared For A Long Journey
Creating a great business takes time. Once you commit yourself, you will need to make three to five year projections. Growth takes time and is built month by month, year by year. You need to be committed for the long journey.
5. Be Determined
When everything is going wrong, and everyone is doubting you. It is only your determination that will push your business forward. Great businesses are built by determined people.
